The oldest craft brewery in Raleigh will be shutting its taproom toward the month’s end, with eyes toward a 2023 relaunch at a new location.
Big Boss Brewing opened in an enormous warehouse at 1249 Wicker Drive in 2006. Brewery Director Seth Adams affirmed to WRAL on Wednesday that the brewery’s last day at its original location will be Aug. 28.
“We are not closing. We are going to relocate,” Adams said.
Adams said the organization is searching for a new location for a taproom and production facility. The expectation is to get a new spot and relaunch in 2023, Adams said.

“We want to make sure that people know that Big Boss isn’t going away. We’ve worked really hard. This last month we’ve launched four or five new beers that the world hasn’t seen,” Adams said. “We are still making new beer that is for the marketplace and the taproom. Large Boss’ Wicker Driver location is owned by Grubb Ventures, which is additionally behind the sweeping Raleigh IronWorks improvement being developed close by. Project data documented with the City of Raleigh show that 1249 Wicker Drive is among three warehouses in the space being redeveloped into mixed-use spaces.
