Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce first tight end with five 1,000-yard seasons in NFL history

Travis Kelce turned into the first tight end in NFL history to have a fifth 1,000-yard season on Sunday night in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 22-16 triumph over the Denver Broncos.

Kelce, 31, was tied at four 1,000-yard getting seasons with Tony Gonzalez, Rob Gronkowski and Jason Witten.

“It’s something cool to hang your hat on when the career is over, I would assume,” Kelce said. “Right now, I’m just focused on the task at hand. Gonna enjoy this one for a night with the family. Then, from there, just focus on Miami.”

Kelce got a 19-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter Sunday to go more than 1,000 yards for the season. He got done with eight gets for 136 yards and a score.

This is Kelce’s fifth sequential season with at any rate 1,000 getting yards.

“That’s quite an accomplishment. Nobody enjoys a game or works harder than Kelce, so it’s great to see this happen to him and he loves playing the game,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “Those kind of guys, you love to coach, and we’re blessed to have a few of those that love the game. I’m proud of Kelce for the time and effort he puts in.”

The Chiefs inked the 2013 third-round pick to a four-year, $57.25 million agreement expansion with $28 million ensured before the season.

“He and [Mahomes] have a great relationship and that’s important to get these kind of things done,” Reid said after the Chiefs (11-1) clinched a sixth consecutive playoff berth. “Every QB needs a go-to guy, and ours is fortunate to have a couple, but 87 is a big one for him.”
