Jennifer Lopez to star in Sci-Fi thriller ‘Atlas’ for Netflix

Jennifer Lopez is humankind’s last expectation.

Indeed, at any rate that is the reason of “Atlas,” a sci-fi thriller set to star the “Jenny From the Block” singer and “Hustlers” actress. Brad Peyton, who orchestrated on-screen savagery in “Rampage” and “San Andreas,” will direct the film. “Atlas” unfolds in a bleak-sounding future where an AI soldier has decided the best way to end war is to end humanity. Clearly, this extremist approach to achieving a pacifist paradise doesn’t go down so well with Lopez, who finds herself teaming up with, as the authority logline puts it: “the one thing she fears most — another AI.” Dun dun dun!

“Having the chance to direct Jennifer in the title role of this movie is a dream come true, as I know she’ll bring the incredible strength, depth and authenticity we’ve all come to admire from her work,” Peyton said.

The film is the latest project to begin from Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions’ first-look deal with Netflix. As a feature of the pact, Lopez, producing partner Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and longtime manager Benny Medina will make a slate of movies, television series, scripted and unscripted content, with an emphasis on projects that support diverse female actors, writers and filmmakers. The initial two reported undertakings both star Lopez and include “The Mother,” which is coordinated by Niki Caro and “The Cipher,” in view of the novel by Isabella Maldonado.

Aron Eli Coleite is composing the latest draft of a script wrote by Leo Sardarian. Makers include Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures, Peyton and Jeff Fierson for ASAP Entertainment; Lopez, Goldsmith-Thomas, and Medina for Nuyorican Productions

Deadline initially announced the deal for “Map book.”
