Heroic Jamshedpur FC Ends Their Run with a Victory Over FC Goa

At the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Sunday, Jamshedpur FC defeated FC Goa 3-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024–25. Since they defeated the Gaurs 2-1 in their rematch on September 17, 2024, Khalid Jamil became the first head coach to defeat Manolo Marquez in the ISL competition.

As a result of this victory, Jamshedpur FC also moved up to the second position, with 34 points currently opposed to the Gaurs’ 33.

In the 34th minute, Lazar Cirkovic hit the top right corner of the FC Goa net with a peach of an effort. After a tough battle on the flank between Javi Hernandez and Cirkovic, the latter quickly took possession and hit the ball on goal to give the Men of Steel the lead.

Mohammed Sanan, a Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) alumnus, dominated inside the box from the left flank before entering the final third and shooting towards the middle of the net to help Jamshedpur FC capitalise on this momentum. In the 37th minute, Javi Siverio was sent in the middle and tapped the ball in to double the advantage after FC Goa custodian Hrithik Tiwari made a stop.

With a smooth interplay between Brison Fernandes and Ayush Dev Chhetri, FC Goa reduced the deficit just before halftime. To put the Gaurs back in the game, Brison set up a fast pass for Ayush from the left to the centre, who smashed it into the bottom right corner with perfect accuracy.

In the second half, the Gaurs maintained this level of urgency as Mohammed Yasir and Sahil Tavora teamed up to create a commotion close to the Jamshedpur FC box in the 57th minute. Although he took the shot from the middle of the box, Tavora saw space in the last third and set up a simple delivery for Yasir, which struck the left crossbar.

However, it may be argued that Khalid Jamil’s decision to substitute Mobashir Rahman for Sourav Das in the 58th minute had given Jamshedpur FC the advantage. In the 68th minute, Red Miners had been awarded a corner. Mobashir took the corner and sent a perfectly timed curling ball that might have been lost in the packed FC Goa box, but Siverio headed it into the top left corner from close range to give the home team their third goal of the game and a crucial victory given the dynamics of the points table.
