From singer to BJP poster boy to Mamata’s minister: Babul Supriyo

After a successful stint as a Hindi playback vocalist, Supriyo entered politics in 2014, getting a pass to challenge the Lok Sabha races for the BJP from West Bengal on Ramdev’s recommendations.

Babul Supriyo, who was on Wednesday confirmed as a minister in Mamata Banerjee’s bureau, has had an exciting ride, from being a well known playback vocalist to BJP’s banner kid in West Bengal to joining the TMC government.

Supriyo got going as a city broker who rose to be a BJP serve at the Center after an opportunity meeting with yoga master Ramdev, yet out of nowhere ended up vulnerable subsequent to losing a gathering political decision from Tollygunge last year overwhelmingly of 50,000 votes.

Be that as it may, Supriyo returned to win the renowned Ballygunge voting public in April for his new party – the Trinamool Congress – which he participated in September 2021 in an unexpected move.

Brought into the world in West Bengal’s Uttarpara as Supriya Baral in 1970, he changed his name to Babul Supriyo while taking a shot as a Bollywood vocalist in the wake of stopping his banking job.

After a fruitful stretch as a Hindi playback vocalist, Supriyo entered legislative issues in 2014, getting a pass to challenge the Lok Sabha races for the BJP from West Bengal on Ramdev’s recommendations.

He amazed everybody by overcoming TMC’s Dola Sen from the modern town of Asansol and was made the Union Minister of State for Urban Development.

After two years, he was moved to the Ministry for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises during a reshuffle in July 2016.

In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Supriyo’s series of wins proceeded when he crushed TMC’s Moon Moon Sen overwhelmingly of 1.97 lakh votes.

This time the Bollywood artist was named the Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Supriyo was again hollowed in April 2021, as the BJP contender for Tollygunge Assembly body electorate, which has as its focal point the film studio known as Tollywood, against three-time TMC MLA Aroop Biswas.

The double cross BJP MP had then guaranteed he would end Biswas’ “fascism” in Tollywood.

Be that as it may, this time round his dash of karma appeared to have run out.

Supriyo lost by more than 50,000 votes.

Things likewise began turning sour in his relationship with BJP’s top authority and he was in the end dropped from the Union Cabinet.

The irritated 50-year-old vocalist, whose instinctual first response was that he would “quit” governmental issues subsequent to being dropped from the service, at last joined the TMC after party supremo Mamata Banerjee and general secretary Abhishek Banerjee stretched out a proposal to him.

“It was with extraordinary disappointment that I had reported that I would quit politics. An extraordinary open door has been stretched out by Didi (Mamata Banerjee) and Abhishek Banerjee and I am glad to acknowledge that. I was anticipating something else following seven years as a Union Minister of State. Then contrasts began developing with the party,”” Supriyo had said subsequent to joining the TMC last year.

However his triumph in Ballygunge prior this year was damaged by a mission of “no decision in favor of Supriyo” embraced by certain gatherings in the electorate, Supriyo, consistent with his thrill ride style won the seat by more than 20,000 votes against his CPI(M) rival Saira Shah Halim, who arose in the second position.

Curiously, his previous party’s Keya Ghosh came a distant third.
