Five superfoods that improve kidney health were identified by Dr. Manju Aggarwal, chief medical services officer and chairperson of nephrology at Artemis Hospital in Gurugram, and Dr. Prakash Chandra Shetty, urologist at Dr. LH Hiranandani Hospital in Powai, Mumbai.

Berries

Anthocyanins, an antioxidant found in blueberries that lower inflammation and guard against oxidative stress, are among the many vitamins and minerals that these berries contain. These little berries are good for people with kidney problems since they are low in potassium, salt, and phosphorus. Consuming blueberries can help control blood pressure and stave off kidney stones from forming.

Salmon

Salmon, a fatty fish high in omega-3 fatty acids, has anti-inflammatory qualities that support a strong cardiovascular system. Eating fish high in fat, such as salmon, helps decrease cholesterol and lower the risk of kidney disease. Kale

In addition to these superfoods, Dr. Shetty discusses how hydration can enhance kidney function. ““Water is essential for flushing toxins and waste products out of your kidneys, so aim for at least eight glasses of water daily, based on your activity level and climate.”  To keep kidneys in good condition, he also suggests cutting out on processed meals, refined carbohydrates, and high sodium intake.
