College Football Playoff Committee pushes release of final 2020 rankings back about fourteen days in the midst of revamped season

The season finisher calendar will continue as before, in any case

The College Football Playoff determination advisory group won’t uncover its last rankings on Sunday, Dec. 6, as initially booked. Rather, the CFP reported that it has moved its “Selection Sunday” back about fourteen days to Sunday, Dec. 20 because of a few gatherings moving their title games to Dec. 12, 18 or 19 as they keep on exploring through the vulnerabilities brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The advisory group will meet for the last time this season in Grapevine, Texas, from Dec. 18-20. A full timetable of the board of trustees’ gatherings will be discharged sometime in the not too distant future.

“With recent schedule changes for the regular season, it makes sense for the committee to make its final rankings after the conference championship games, when it can get a complete picture of the season,” chief Bill Hancock said in an announcement. “The selection committee members understand the need to be flexible as we all navigate uncharted waters this season, and this move will allow them to evaluate all the available information.”

Regardless of the deferral in uncovering the season finisher field, the games themselves are as yet planned for their typical dates. The elimination rounds at the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl remain scheduled for Friday, Jan. 1, while the College Football Playoff National Championship is still on for Monday, Jan. 11 in Miami Gardens. This all, obviously, is accepting that enough football is played to see a postseason.
