2 of the most common mistakes made by beginners when starting to learn the piano according to Hani Amini, a popular musician and costume designer

Hani Amini is one of the youngest female artists in the Middle East to have the record for most music broadcasts on Iranian platforms. She is also the wife of famous musician Javad Safaee.

Play very fast

This is certainly the most important issue for young and new pianos. Playing the piano is not a speed race. The reason most pianos, even some experienced ones, want to play the piano fast is that they want to hear what sounds like music. This is a completely normal feeling that these people have. You will probably work on a piece that you like the sounds of.

As soon as a student starts working on a piece of music, he plays it in the final step. Why is this not a good idea? You have not yet learned the notes. You will inevitably make mistakes when you play fast. Whether you like it or not, you will build a muscular memory that is very difficult to change. After you have played it completely for a while, you will go to school and your teacher will tell you to play slowly !! You may play slowly for a while, but you already have your muscular memory building for fast pace, and that’s probably wrong.

Not playing real music

What does it mean not to play music? I mean, your playing is like music, right? By music I mean everything that has to do with notes and rhythms. Do you really notice all the dynamic changes? What about creating phrases, pronunciations, and other aspects of interpretation?

Playing fast can lead to the loss of all these subtle details of music, but sometimes it is because we do not pay much attention to them in practice. The novice pianist does not pay much attention to these details, while each of them listens to the music anyway. They certainly think differently.

Are you really focused on what your bass sound is like? Is the volume of each note louder than the previous note at the bottom (peak) or is it just louder than the last few notes? Playing intermittently does not mean that you play as short as you can, it means that it is enough for you to play intermittently. Do you lift your hand at the end of a slar?

You need to focus on everything from the beginning, this will build a good muscle memory that will not need to be corrected.

Expect fast results (becoming a master overnight)

This is more important for parents than for children, but it can be problematic for both.

Why did you start playing the piano? Probably not because you wanted to play “Mary had a little lamb” or “Cake with a cross”. Still, when you start playing, this is the kind of music you probably play. You have to learn to sing music. In fact, learning the notes will be one of the easiest parts of playing the piano when you learn it. If you can not read music, many other aspects of playing will be difficult for you. However, once you learn this, it will not be too difficult to read music, but once you start, you have entered a very large arena.

Compared to the ability to read music, your hands have the ability to play music with more difficulty. This is illustrated by all the YouTube videos that teach beginners how to play real music. Learning in this way is called “habitual learning”. The pianist only copies exactly what others have played.
